NFL power rankings, week one:

A brand new NFL season starts tonight and it’s undoubtedly going to be one of the weirdest seasons in league history, all things considered. But as we get ready to get to work on this blank slate, it’s important to look around and take stock of where we stand at the outset.
That’s where our Pete Prisco comes in. Pete is the Power Rankings master and he’s got an incredible ability to call it like he sees it, and he doesn’t particularly care about your feelings. Feel like your team isn’t getting enough respect? Good, your anger only makes Prisco stronger.

So, as we get ready to officially kick off the 2020-21 season tonight, here are some takeaways from Prisco’s Week 1 Power Rankings:
  • Kansas City remain at the top: The Chiefs are not only reigning champs, but Prisco has them in the No. 1 spot again to start this season… and he thinks they’re going to repeat. The last team to repeat as Super Bowl Champions was the 2003-2004 Patriots
  • Packers at No. 2: They didn’t get Aaron Rodgers much help this offseason but Pete is still buying them as one of the league’s best
  • Cowboys outside of the top 10: A lot of faith is being placed in Mike McCarthy’s system and the Cowboys had a strong offseason. That being said, Prisco has them in the No. 11 slot to start the year, though he says they could wind up with the division title
  • New England uncharacteristically low: Tom Brady is no longer in New England and, as a result, the AFC East seems pretty wide open. The Patriots will also be without several other significant pieces from last year so this will be a challenging one for Bill Belichick. With Cam Newton at the helm, the Pats kick off the year ranked No. 20
  • Washington sits dead last: Going to be a tough year for Football Team!

Of course, the great thing about the first day of the season is that everyone has the same record, there’s unlimited possibilities and hope flows like wine. It doesn’t matter where you’re favorite team is ranked right now because pretty much anything can be drawn on a blank canvas.
That being said, feel free to let Prisco know how upset you are that he disrespected your favorite squad and make sure to remind him that I can still out-bench him.
